June is national camping month in the United States. Weather in Colorado has been beautiful. We see families going out hiking, swimming and camping to enjoy the outdoors. Regardless of where you’re located, the imminent start of summer in June means that the weather is likely to be perfect for getting outside and enjoying some camping and adventures in the great outdoors.

Why is National Camping Month in June?

June was designated as the National Camping Month since the summer solstice on June 21st marks the beginning of the summer season. Additionally, June is a convenient time for families in the U.S. to take camping trips. The annual school year conclude in the middle or end of May. With the federal holiday of Memorial Day being celebrated on the 30th of May 2022 (usually the last Monday of May), the four-day Memorial Day symbolizes the beginning of the two-and-half-month summer break.

How to celebrate National Camping Month

A variety of helpful resources, tips and recommendations are available online to guide you in making the most of your camping experience. Some notable ones include:

During National Camping Month, your camping trip begins with the right approach to planning. Selecting your destination comes first. There are private campgrounds located all over the U.S., in addition to National Parks that offer camping (this camping app offers all of the critical info on camping in National Parks), and other beautiful camping hotspots. For camping in the Pacific Northwest, one of the most popular regions for camping, unique camping opportunities such as yurt camping offer a fun and different experience for enjoying nature and outdoor recreation.

After you have done your research and chosen a destination, the next step is to ensure you have all of the necessary equipment for a safe, well-supplied trip. If you’re not renting a cabin and/or your off-the-shelf tent isn’t durable enough for your camping adventures this summer, it may be time to upgrade.

Discuss the activities and sights that they will get to enjoy at your camping destination, and highlight the adventure of communing with nature and sleeping somewhere new and exciting.

If “roughing it” is not part of your summer plans, there are numerous glamping options available to those who prefer a more comfortable summer camping experience. Short for “glamorous camping”, glamping provides campers with experience of the great outdoors without the discomfort of being deprived of the comforts of home. Our What is Glamping Guide provides to a comprehensive outline of the various forms of glamping, its benefits, the structures used, and the essential items required on a packing list.
